Design Miami/Basel press release
The HSBC Connection Collection II will be unveiled at Design Miami/ Basel in June 2010. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have designed a new piece, entitled Lianes, which is a lighting installation of interconnected lamps in which every single element is unified - from the long cables to the fixation points to the actual light shell - by covering each interrelated part in a single-color leather 'skin'. This leather-to-leather adherence and the natural brakes that come from the topstitching passing through the tying points also make it easy to adjust the orientation and the height of the light freely.
HSBC Private Bank first partnered with Design Miami/ in 2006. At the time, the bank was one of the first institutions to support design and since then, the general public's interest as well as the bank's interest has grown.
Each year, as part of the partnership with Design Miami, HSBC Private Bank works with designers to create VIP lounges at the fair's Basel and Miami events. The establishment of the HSBC Connection Collection therefore marks a natural evolution of our commitment to facilitating and nurturing design talent.
HSBC Private Bank were first introduced to Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec while the French design duo was preparing to exhibit Roches, Conques, Lianes at Galerie Kreo in Paris. It was Lianes that expressed in a very manner the notion of connections and most specifically the Bank's profound conviction that the most innovative, relevant and successful design - as in business - results from the connections between people.
Through the special use of the leather, which covers the long cables, Lianes incorporates and unifies all the interconnected elements that combine together to make the lamp. Alessandro Mendini's description of "mysterious lianas hanging from imaginary trees which have been taken away from their forests and brought into an urban environment" draws a spectacular image of this design. Globally and across cultures, communication between individuals forms the basis of all great ideas.
The Lianes of the Connection Collection II is a one of a kind version of the design created by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec; and will be showcased at Design Miami/ Basel.
THE HSBC PRIVATE BANK LOUNGE | ||
This year's Lounge will have a festive look, featuring a colourful array of furnishings designed by Gaetano Pesce for Meritalia, complimented with flooring by Bolon. The expansive 'La Michetta' padded sofas in vibrant color-blocks can be easily adjusted and individualized, allowing HSBC Private Bank guests to also sit together and 'connect'.
The lounge serves as a meeting point for HSBC Private Bank’s international clients, collectors, designers and special guests and will be the focal point throughout the fair for design discourse and making connections.
The HSBC Private Bank Lounge will also host a series of events and programming throughout the week.
